My career has centered around being an excellent teacher, Library Media Specialist and now Instructional Technology Coordinator.  I believe by harnessing the power of the web, apps, sites, and video, students can be unleashed and knowledge can lead to amazing learning, discovery and production!   I am excited to be part of this learning experience!

Professional Development

A large part of my current job is professional development and establishing Professional Learning Communities.  I tailor professional development topics as well as delivery to the various groups.  I've provided an example of 1 professional development opportunity for the staff groups below to showcase my depth of knowledge and ability to provide quality professional development based on the staff needs.

Library Media Team Meeting

This is an example of a presentation I created for our back to school meeting with the Library Media Team, including Library Media Specialists and Library Aides.

Community Hours at Pulaski High School

Our school libraries have a great deal to offer our students:  quality print and digital resources, access to technology and AV equipment, and multi-functional space.  Our local public library branch has very limited hours as well as space.  As a result, we investigated the benefits of opening our high school library to the public and began implementing community hours two years ago.

Benefits:

  • Sharing of resources
  • Bridging school with home
  • Exposing community to our library spaces
  • Providing parents of students with the same resources
  • Extended hours to students
  • Community members and students engaging

Library Makerspaces

Recently, our Library Media Specialist Team has been discussing the creation of Makerspaces in our libraries to support innovation and provide a program for students to explore and engage in different ways.    We watched various webinars on the topic and generated ideas about what each building's makerspace need or idea could be.

I arranged a full day workshop for further learning and development this February.  The topic is not only on Makerspace, but also physical design of learning spaces and coding.  Attending this workshop will be our Library Media Team, Model Classroom Teacher and then a team per building consisting of the Building Principal and three teachers.  I have also invited local districts to attend with teams as well.

Redesigned Library and Learning Spaces

I recently worked with Library Media Specialists and Building Principals on the re-design of library and learning spaces to better support today's learners.  They are spaces that promote collaborative, are multi-functional, resource rich, technology driven and flexible!  Target Interiors and KI were great to work with!

The spaces we renovated were:

  • Pulaski High School Library
  • Fairview Elementary Library
The spaces we created were:
  • Middle School Personalized Learning Lab
  • High School Personalized Learning Lab

Chamber of Commerce Visit Pulaski Schools

I invited the Pulaski Chamber of Commerce into see the learning that takes place today!  They walked through 3 model classrooms and an elementary library and then had a Lunch N Learn discussion with some of the teachers.  The Chamber attendees were amazed at how different schools are today than when they were in school.  They complimented the teachers on engaging the students and complimented our district for provided spaces for today's learners.

Here is what one member had to say after the visit...

Helping Our Our Community

Students in our model classrooms get to put their skills to use in helping out our community. Every three months I, along with our middle school Library Media Specialist, take students to the Senior Center where we spend 2 hours helping them with their devices.  It's amazing the technology they have in their hands!

Summer Technology Academy- SITA 2013

Every summer our EWITC organization offers a 1-week technology academy for staff in local districts in Northeastern Wisconsin.  This year, I decided to teach something different from the traditional technology tools.  I taught a simulation so the teachers were students in my classroom!  One session I used iPads and the other I used Chromebooks!  My goal was for teachers to see how to integrate technology into their daily practices.  I often see teachers using technology devices as stations, but wanted to push them further into use them just as how they teach.

Here is the blog I used with the "students"
